How to have your say

To have your say on Marine Conservation Zones in the Irish Sea project area you need to make your comments or information known to the stakeholder group.

We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to meet our liaison staff or fill in questionnaires during 2010.

By the end of the year we had met 3,000 people at over 230 meetings in 92 different locations in North West England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and the Isle of Man.

As well as providing opportunities to talk to people about the project, the team gathered almost 300 questionnaires from sea users that capture vital firsthand knowledge about the Irish Sea.

The questionnaires cover over 40 per cent of all known UK commercial fishing vessels operating in the project area, as well as many recreational and other activities.

Get involved

Although we are no longer collecting data, there are still ways you can be involved in the Irish Sea Conservation Zones project.

Marine Conservation Zones in the Irish Sea project area will be recommended by a stakeholder group made up of a broad cross section of people with interests in the Irish Sea.

The stakeholder group will consider comments and information gathered from the wider community of sea users, and there are a number of ways you can contribute your information and concerns.

You can:

  • Contact your sector spokesperson on the stakeholder group via the Irish Sea team (please specify who you want to contact and we will forward your email. Click here for a list of members of the stakeholder group).
  • Comment on the second progress report, which shows the first draft of potential Marine Conservation Zones in the Irish Sea (note that these are liable to change in later progress reports). Please use the downloadable form to make any comments.
  • You can also contact our liaison officers, who can attend meetings, give presentations and pass your comments and information onto the stakeholder group on your behalf (contact details below).
  • And you can keep informed by checking our website and signing up for our email or postal newsletter.
